Officer Combs was presented and honored before the City Commission on Monday, November 19, 2012
Officer Andrew Combs, began his career at the Sarasota Police Department in 2006. In 2011 Officer Combs joined the Street Crimes Unit, a specialty patrol unit which focuses on narcotics and prostitution in the City of Sarasota. In his first year as an SCU Officer, Officer Combs has distinguished himself as a courageous, intelligent, and dynamic Officer with inexhaustible diligence to duty and perseverance in apprehending hardened criminals in the most violent and crime-ridden district of Sarasota.
Officer Combs, along with other members of the Street Crimes Unit, has held operations in an attempt to develop probable cause for dealers on the streets. In one operation, Officer Combs was approached by aggressive drug dealers in his vehicle. Three subjects were arrested for seven felonies and three misdemeanors for the sale of marijuana and cocaine.
Officer Combs has made traffic stops which resulted in seizure of marijuana, cocaine, and firearms. In one of these incidents, the subject was in possession of a firearm thought to be stolen. Officer Combs developed probable cause and drafted a search warrant for the subject to get his DNA. The subject willingly provided a swab for analyzing.
As a result, Officer Combs learned the procedures of obtaining and executing a search warrant and now provides training for officers on other shifts. A City of Sarasota employee who takes ownership and responsibility, Officer Combs is to be commended for his diligence, hard work, job knowledge and dedication. Congratulations!
